Have you ever heard someone ask the question about church, "why can't it be like it used to be?"  If you have heard that question raised it could be hard to understand if you were not a part of the past time to which they're referencing.
Yes, it's true that that they could be referring to old time hymns or dress or any number of things that God unlikely had on His heart when He birthed a church in the New Testament.
Yes, even truer is what many people are referring to. People are often times referring to relationships and fellowship that have been seemingly lost and de-emphasized in recent decades due to the attractional church model prevalent in the west. 
The Big Deal about small groups has everything to do with pursuing a direction that re-emphasizes relationships and fellowship around Truth. Truth that we shape our lives around together. 
Back to the opening question. If the way it used to be isn't about shaping our lives around Truth together, as we devote our lives to the principles discovered when the church was formed, why would we look back? We wouldn't!
Look back to Acts 2:42 and discover what believers were devoted to. In what ways are you devoted to what you discovered in the verse?
