Home - About Us - Our Story
In 1991 six people stood holding hands in a small, dirty office room in Danville, VA believing that God was calling them to plant a church. Just a few weeks later twenty three people including family and friends gathered to witness the birth of Blessed Hope. Pastor Brian Edwards was only twenty one at the time and didn’t know any better than to believe that God had great plans. The next few years were incredibly difficult and financially Blessed Hope struggled to exist, but in spite of the trials God was always faithful. After spending a year in the upstairs office space Blessed Hope was finally able to acquire a vacant church building on Franklin Turnpike, and after weathering several difficult months attendance finally started to grow. Several months later the leadership of the church discovered a vacant flower shop only a short distance from they were, and after the owner offered to finance an agreement was reached. It didn’t matter that there was only one small restroom with a horrible smell, it didn’t matter that green peg board covered the walls, and it didn’t matter that a huge hill had to be climbed to reach the front door. The church was excited to have a home. People still say some of the greatest services in our history happened when we were crammed in that small room with mud on our feet happy to be together. However, several months passed and finally over crowding became a serious issue so plans were set in motion to build a bigger facility. It seemed unbelievable that the struggles of a few years earlier had given way to so many incredible blessings. The new sanctuary was finally completed and all the room was a little overwhelming. There was the excitement of new possibilities and the fear this building would be difficult to fill. That fear fortunately was short lived and only a few years after occupying the new sanctuary a second service was added. Since that time Blessed Hope has undergone it’s greatest expansion/transformation ever, and now we’re looking to the future trusting God to exceed what He’s done in the past. Countless people have given their hearts to Christ, lives have been changed and families have been restored, but the great news is the stories still being written. It is the prayer of our leadership, as well as our church, that our appreciation of Blessed Hope’s history would never exceed our expectations for the future. God is amazing and with Him nothing is impossible.
